While hosting Blender Benchmark results will be the initial purpose of the Open Data portal, we plan to host other data sets in the future. The data hosted on the website is available under Public Domain, it is updated in near-realtime after every benchmark and it is easily processable and well documented. In order to visualize, share and explore the data, we’ve built. No other personal information is collected. Currently this information is removed by default. In order to provide control over the data that is shared online, the benchmark result is first associated with the Blender ID of the user, and uploaded on, where the user will be able to redact and anonymize the parts containing personal information (Blender ID username and hostname). After that, the user will be able to share the result online on the Blender Open Data platform, or to save the data locally. The benchmark will gather information about the system, such as operating system, RAM, graphics cards, CPU model, as well as information about the performance of the system during the execution of the benchmark. Users download the Benchmark Client and run one of the two benchmarks (‘quick’ or ‘complete’). We believe this is the best way to invite the Blender community to contribute the results of their performance tests, and create a world-class Open Dataset for the entire CG industry. We only use free and open source software (GNU GPL), the testing content is public domain (CC0), and the test results are being shared anonymized as public domain data – free for anyone to download and to process further. We’ve built the Blender Benchmark platform with maximum focus on transparency and privacy. The benchmark consists of two parts: a downloadable package which runs Blender and renders on several production files, and the Open Data portal on, where the results will be (optionally) uploaded. With this benchmark we aim at an optimal comparison between system hardware and installations, and to assist developers to track performance during Blender development. Today we present the Blender Benchmark, a new platform to collect and display the results of hardware and software performance tests.

You now need to determine how big you want the overall balloon wall to be when completed, and therefore what size the balloons need to be inflated to. I now know exactly how many balloons I will be using and how many balloons I need in each colour. Now it is easier to break this wall down into its individual columns, so that we can start to build the wall. This wall is made up of 6 columns, in each column there are 10 clusters of balloons, therefore we will use in total 240 balloons.Ĥ (number of balloons per cluster) x 10 (number of balloons in the column = 40 x 6 (number of column) = 240 I have used a simple image of a fish to illustrate how to make this wall. I have used this method because I personally feel that it gives a really Professional ‘finished’ look. Example of how to create a design using the Alternate-Size Garland Pack method The 2-balloon duplet ‘Square Pack’ method is a little more difficult, with each duplet you pack only one of the balloons is for the front and the other is for the back, I find it easier to make the back balloons all one colour as you will not see any of these balloons from the front and it makes a very clean back to the wall. In this instance the central balloon has a chequeredĢ balloons facing, the other 2 balloons should repeatĮxactly the same as the front, see example below Repeat of whatever colour the central balloon is, The Traditional and Alternate Size Garland Pack is easy with both these methods you can see either 2 balloons or 3 balloons facing the front in each of the columns.ģ balloons facing, the fourth balloon should be a Once you have decided which wall type you are working with you also need to consider that the graph paper is only showing you the front of the wall, so what is happening behind? So the first job is to work with each paper, and plot your design to see which one show’s off your design the best. Working with ‘Balloon Wall’ graph paper, makes designing a balloon wall pretty simple Bruce Walden created the graph paper that I have used for many years, without it, I think I would find it very difficult to know which type of wall to work with as each one has strength’s and weakness for certain patterns and lines. This style of packing gives us a flat base, flat sides and also a flat surface, which I think gives a very professional appearance. A greater difference in size will also give a different texture and look you will need to experiment to determine your own preference. I prefer to use a 1″ / 2.5cm difference when working with smaller balloon sizes and a 2″ /5cm difference when working with bigger balloons, a greater difference in size means that the columns will pack together a little more tightly. This method of packing uses 2 different sizes of balloons. This method gives us a wall with flat sides, flat surface but the base and top are uneven.Īlternate Size Garland Pack for ‘Square Garlands’ This method uses one size of balloon and is packed working with duplets (2 balloons) rather than with clusters (4 balloons). This type of wall gives us a flat base and top, but the sides and surface are bumpy. This method uses one size of balloon which is packed in the same way you would pack a 4-balloon ‘garland’ or ‘column’.

Now in Morocco, they begin to unravel the story of their past with alarming consequences. As roommates at Bennington College, Alice and Lucy formed a quick bond and parted ways after a mysterious accident. The book takes place in 1950’s Tangier, where a recently married couple is unexpectedly visited by the wife’s former college roommate. I picked up Christine Mangan’s debut novel, Tangerine, prior to my recent trip to Morocco. I loved this collection for the honesty and raw emotion found in each story, and am continually awed by Gay’s willingness and nerve to put her characters in difficult and necessary places. AGILE has been implemented at since 2017 and group-sequential designs of one kind or another have since been adopted by others. Always Valid P-values has been implemented at Optimizely since 2015 with the arrival of its “New Stats Engine”. The first of these approaches is the most basic and the basis and inspiration of most later work on sequential tests so SPRT serves as a baseline among sequential tests. AGILE, a particular group-sequential one-sided test with a futility boundary and a maximum sample size as described in my 2017 white paper (obvious conflict of interest disclaimer!).the Always Valid Inference approach proposed by Johari, Pekelis & Walsh which is based on mixture Sequential Probability Ratio Tests (mSPRTs) developed by Robbins.the classic Sequential Probability Ratio Test (SPRT) developed by Wald, in a one-sided scenario. The articles presents a comparison of the three approaches to sequential testing. Providing CRO and experimentation specialists with a clear comparison of the trade-offs made by different sequential testing methods aims to alleviate this situation. Missing out on true lifts is something practitioners should deeply care about especially in light of the recent findings regarding the high concentration of lifts around zero. the rate of failing to detect as statistically significant true improvements of practical importance at any given maximum sample size. While stopping early on average is important, a decrease in statistical power means there is an increase in type II errors, a.k.a. This leaves practitioners with little guidance on how to choose an appropriate sequential test based on a trade-off between power and average sample size. Where power calculations are present in published works in the A/B testing literature, they are often in comparison to other tests of the same class or to fixed sample tests in a sometimes not so straightforward manner, making comparisons to other approaches difficult. Fully sequential tests sacrifice more generalizability as well as more statistical power in order to achieve better average sample size.Ī majority of the literature on sequential tests focuses significantly on the reduction in average sample size and often insufficient attention is paid to the trade-off in terms of loss of statistical power. In general, group sequential tests aim for higher generalizability and power through their monitoring schedule and alpha-spending function while achieving less impressive average sample sizes. the statistical power achieved at any finite sample size.the average sample sizes under various true values of the primary metric.the effect on generalizability (external validity). The three major differentiators, in no particular order, are: MotivationĪn earlier article titled Fully Sequential vs Group Sequential Tests offers a brief history of sequential testing and a comparison of the two major types of such tests. A fixed sample test will serve as an anchoring benchmark.Īn understanding of the trade-offs involved in each type of sequential test should assist experimenters in their choice of a sequential testing method suitable for the scenarios they face. Hence the motivation for this piece which is to provide an easy to digest comparison between sequential statistical tests popular in online A/B testing, namely the Sequential Probability Ratio Test (SPRT), the group-sequential AGILE, and Always Valid Inference – a type of mixture SPRT. Not all sequential statistical tests are made equal, however, and comparisons between the different approaches are rare and/or difficult to translate to practice. Sequential monitoring achieves this superiority by trading statistical power for the ability to stop earlier on average under any true value of the primary metric. In most practical scenarios sequential tests offer a balance of risks and rewards superior to that of an equivalent fixed sample test. In A/B testing sequential tests are gradually becoming the norm due to the increased efficiency and flexibility that they grant practitioners. Obviously, I wanted to represent my country. Being cut right before they traveled to Europe was tough. What did you gain from the experience of competing to make Team USA for World Juniors? I think it's pretty cool to think about that but also take an example from guys like Olofsson, just their training and how hard they work." Seeing that and just kind of taking the example, knowing that guys from that development camp are playing in the NHL. Just remembering seeing guys like Olofsson out there and Thompson, seeing the success Olofsson had after seeing how hard he worked and seeing his attitude on the ice, too. It was pretty cool."ĭid you take anything from the development camp experience last summer and carry it into your season? They care about your development, so just having for instance come out to the games and be able to give me feedback helps a lot. It felt like they were at almost every other weekend or maybe more, so it was nice to hear feedback from them. What were your interactions like with the Sabres development staff? It was good in the end because it helped us grow and it's fun to play." So, at times you could get stuck and you had to just be ready every shift because it was always a challenge. We're playing a lot of minutes and you're defending against these older guys, too. "It was nice because the D coach played the younger guys a lot, so we were able to get a lot of shifts and able to be challenged on the ice. How would you characterize the role you played this year? The skill is pretty similar, but the strength, there's a difference there for sure." I think that's definitely the biggest adjustment. Guys spend so much more time training in the weight room. Is that the biggest adjustment coming from the USHL to college? So, you have to beat them with your feet and think smartly too within the game. I think that's still a big thing because you have guys a lot bigger taking runs at you. "Well, growing up I was on the smaller side as well, so I've learned to kind of use my feet and my skating to avoid getting hit. How do you compensate while playing physically stronger competition? And all the preparation leading up to it, take it seriously." It just shows that in college it's a battle every weekend, so you have to prepare and be ready and take every weekend seriously. But I think it was also a really good lesson to learn. "That game right there, that just showed that we were young and we didn't play the way we know we needed to. What did you learn from tough losses? The North Dakota game, for example. And on the personal level, I'd say the same thing, just kind of more mature. But by the end of the year, we were playing a lot better, a lot more team oriented. So, we had a couple games where we kind of showed our youth and we didn't really play the way we want to. For the team level, we're a young team all-around. Were the challenging aspects on a personal level, a team level, or both? I thought that was good in the way that it was challenging and there is lots of room for growth." Playing against older guys was, I thought, good because it helped me adjust and helped me adapt to stronger players, more like NHL level where you're going to be playing against stronger guys than you. It was challenging at times, which was good. "I thought it was a good season of growth. How would you characterize your freshman year? Prospect Rewinds: Dylan Cozens | Matej Pekar | Erik Portillo | Mattias Samuelsson Johnson caught up with to discuss his season. So, we're very pleased with the situation he's in." I think next year, we're going to see Ryan play an even larger role on what's likely an NCAA Tournament team. "He's got a great situation now during this quarantine where he's at home and has training and is doing a great job. "I think if you went on a week-by-week basis, every week Ryan Johnson was improving at the University of Minnesota, which is exactly what we wanted to see. "I think with Ryan, you just wanted him to transition into Minnesota and play his style of play, which is up-tempo, puck-moving defenseman," Sabres assistant manager Steve Greeley said. Minnesota had won its three-game series against Notre Dame to open the Big 10 tournament by the time the season was halted in March.
